Ylvingen & the Vega Islands for children
Family holidays on the Helgeland Coast – adventure, fun, and learning by the sea
Do you remember being a child by the sea? Endless days of discovery, rockpools swimming with life, caves filled with mystery...
That world still exist, a place where every day is the beginning of a new adventure. Out here, we don't let the weather control us. "We're not made of sugar," we say in Norway. We won't melt in the rain, not will we blow away in the wind. In fact, at Ylvingen we think it's extra fun to be outside in a bit of weather. It makes our baker Morten’s freshly made cinnamon buns taste even better. It's something grownups need to be reminded of as well, the modern world often makes us forget that we're tougher than we think we are.
There is something special happening out here on the island
Here you can disconnect from the modern world. We don't watch TV here, we don't stare at our phones, we'd rather see the Northern Lights, or watch the midnight-sun not quite set. Fill your eyes with new experiences, and give your body a new mastery over the elements. We have plenty of equipment on Himmelblå, so both adults and children can challenge themselves. Who can learn windsurf fastest? Dad or the kids? Dare Mum free dive for scallops?
You know the saying, "it takes a village."
Here you see the truth in it; an island community is a true community. Children and young people, adults and the elderly. We are here together, on an island far out in the open sea. Some are here for a night or two, others have a cabin here, and some are here for the adventure. Either way, you will be part of the "village," whether you like it or not. But we are generous, as one must be; we appreciate that people are simply themselves, and everyone is welcome.
Maybe this will be a place you also choose to return to, year after year?
Just like us. Our children don’t know anything else, and even though this is mom and dad's job, it is also our job to create dream summers, also for our children. I think we have succeeded well with that. Hope to see you :)
Best regards, Linda

Island Living
Travels to Ylvingen and taking part in the Himmelblå atmosphere have become our finest summer memories. The children run around in groups of all ages, and find one another in the way only children can.
We become part of a warm community where friendships emerge and moments that last forever are created. The days are filled with crab fishing, cod fishing, sailing, cycling trips, whale watching, treasure hunts, and small adventures along the shoreline.
As evening falls, we enjoy the midnight sun, the expanse of the sea, and the quiet – and feel how good it is to simply be together, on a small island.

Top tips: what to do on Ylvingen
Exploring life in the sea
Here the sea is lively and crystal clear! Freediving, snorkeling, and foraging along the shore
Fishing
Catch fish and crabs from the land. Alternatively, you can rent a boat, or join us on Himmelblå for a fishing trip.
Out on the Water
With us, you can either rent or join organized kayaking tours. We also have sailing dinghies, rowboats, paddleboards, windsurfing boards, and a traditional Nordland boat.
Time on the Island
The island is just the right size, and here you can do everything from finding your own private white sand beach to exploring a "terrifyingly scary" bunker from World War II.
Swimming!
We take a morning swim every day, regardless of the weather. This is (un)voluntary to join. We also have 7mm freediving suits, a warm outdoor shower, and an even warmer sauna.
Longer trips
Sailing trips to Vega, Torghatten, and other islands along the coast
NOTE! We have regular adventure holidays that use our activity equipment. Therefore, ask us what is available during your visit.
